Dreambuilders' Ball Raises More Than $1 MillionThe Virginia Mason Foundation raised more than $1 million at the 20th Annual Dreambuilders' Ball May 14 at the Westin Seattle. The event benefited and celebrated the final stages of Virginia Mason's $100 million comprehensive fundraising campaign. Kool & The Gang entertained the crowd of more than 800 corporate and philanthropic community leaders at the black-tie event. This year's speaker was Floyd Jones, community philanthropist and Virginia Mason patient, who spoke about his belief in Virginia Mason's commitment to transforming health care and thanked the staff members who have helped him over the years as a patient. The event was co-chaired by Kathleen Kobashi, MD, and Christopher Porter, MD, and Carolyn Corvi and John Bates. Presenting sponsor KING-5 Television contributed significantly to the event's success. Virginia Mason launched the comprehensive fundraising campaign to focus on transforming health care delivery and further its vision to be the Quality Leader in health care. A portion of the campaign funding was earmarked to help build a new hospital addition, The Floyd & Delores Jones Pavilion. An orthopedic unit will open in the Jones Pavilion this summer and the new Emergency Department is scheduled to open in the fall.
